Tour Greens was featured in Long Term Living magazine for helping Westminster Bradenton Towers convert an unused lawn area into a beautifully landscaped golf and outdoor exercise area.

Its Towers and Shores buildings sit side by side on the banks of the scenic Manatee River.  Walkways connect the two buildings but the lawn area between provided no interest along the way.  Management wanted to create a beautiful space between the buildings that could be used for outdoor activities and provide places to take in the views of the river.

With the help of Tour Greens, the idea for a “golfscape” was developed.  Tour Greens had already worked with several Westminster facilities and came up with the overall design that included landscape alterations and a synthetic turf putting green. Westminster wanted something that could be used by more than its golfers, so sitting areas and exercise stations were provided along the pathways around the area. Tour Greens worked with a committee of residents to achieve a balance of aesthetics, function, and safety.

Westminster management knew the golfers would love it, but were equally impressed by the reaction from its non-golfers. Residents, staff, and visitors alike enjoy being outside more now that this previously unused space has been converted into a destination spot. And, the walk between the two buildings is now more enjoyable.

Jury comments:

  • I like the use of space, the relationship of the green to the trees, and the more free-form shape of the general landscape plan.

  • Inclusion of golf area, new seating and planting create an inviting area to participate or just people-watch.

Reader comments:

  • Looks like this will provide residents with hours of ongoing recreation and relaxation areas.

  • This is amazing! Sign me up for a good game of putting any day. It’s beautiful and has really improved the entire area.
